The Ethics of Immortality: Galactic Corporatism vs. The Human Soul
The Consortium presents itself as a grand corporate enterprise providing life-extension technologies to the worthy, viewing humanity as a “product” whose evolution is a direct result of their predatory intervention. Users garbotalk and ACuriousHumanBeing fiercely reject this narrative, framing the Consortium’s “harvesting” of human minds as a soul-stealing crime that violates divine law and stunts true spiritual growth. Ultimately, the debate contrasts a cold, corporate drive for immortality through “lumbering robots” against a humanistic belief in the sanctity of the individual soul and the necessity of faith.

reptiliandude: The Consortium is a grand, inter-world corporate enterprise.
Its most profitable endeavors are those which have provided proven life-extension technologies to those who can afford them, and substantially consistent returns on investment to those who support research, development and the dissemination of product.
From organ transplant, genetic and core modification and enhancement, to cybernetic augmentation; life and the quality of it has been generously extended to many.
Where death was once considered an inevitability, even at the point where all hope was considered lost, malleable brains of host species can now be rewritten to enable new life and new experiences.
The goal of the Consortium is to provide the ways and means for a species to retain their best and their brightest, while lifting up those others whose hubris and short-sightedness would have condemned their own worlds to a chaotic existence if left to their own devices.
Since our clientele are accustomed to a certain amount of luxury, worlds such as your own reap the benefits of accelerated technologies all the while maintaining untouched appearances so that your progress and unique, information-based algorithmic currency ( should you actually develop it ) remains your own to claim.
You would not be as developed either socially or technologically as you are were it not for the encouragement, productive labors, and proactive intervention of the Consortium.
//////
You should at the very least give the enterprise its due in that regard.
For many thousands of years you remained a petty, unwieldy species.
But now, perhaps you might actually amount to something inspiring.
ACuriousHumanBeing: Yeah, we are were petty and such…but something happened. Somethin that happened to your kin too, being of the consortium.
It’s a concept called ‘evolution’, where a species trouble shoots itself. It’s a long, slow process, but ultimatly necessary for making a species grow up. Tampering negativly with such evolution is short sighted and frankly impatient. And besides, if a species is truly self destructive, so be it. The process of evolution will eventually create worthy beings to carry the torch where others failed.
May the one have mercy on your souls, and grant you leniency where others would only grant cruel pain.
garbotalk: This sounds like an advertisement for the damned trying to avoid hell by any means necessary, including the murder of innocent souls and minds of our children born in this world. There can be no greater evil known to exist in the universe than the supplanting of God’s creations by arrogant and greedy aliens. Reading that advertisement induced vomit. Horrendous.
We must end this abuse at all costs.
As to giving the Consortium it’s due for encouraging our advancements, it was done solely to have us do their dirty work for them. Mengela, for example, who experimented on twins and other holocaust victims received Consortium “encouragement” for his advancements. The Consortium have no problem with our deaths or suffering if it increases their portfolio.
So no, I will not be appreciating their selfish labors in the name of profit.
The Assembly will weigh in on this effort, to be sure. When the Consortium was required to repair this world and help humanity after the cataclysm, they sought contrition and sacrificial penance for the wrongs done to our species, did they not?
Instead, the Consortium used this punishment as a means to further abuse and kill us, now as “product” for portfolios rather than soldiers and genome repair. The financial penalties required of the Consortium was turned into down payment on investment for profit. Yes, we got back up on our feet, but only as harvestable product. What kind of a trade is that? How is that helping us? More than anything, we evolved in spite of your abuse of us.
Every “kindness” shown our species was an attempt to make us more productive and profitable. It had no element of mercy or empathy. Thus, the Consortium gets no credit for “good works”.
reptiliandude: All that a man has will he give for his life…
garbotalk: That is why they are fighting so hard to hide from us and sabotage our answering the beacon. This is an uphill battle.
“Whoever takes a human life shall surely be put to death.”
Leviticus 24:17
ACuriousHumanBeing: …I think I understand the books meaning.
And many have yet given up on thier redeemer, or worse, practice thier teachings in name only. He who forgives.
…may lord have mercy.
ACuriousHumanBeing: Not only man it seems.
We all have to accept death. There’s a reason we quote Satan as saying those words. if only those customers of the Consortium accepted this facet of life and let themselves move on and evolve, at this point they’re stalling themselves, and stabbing themselves and others for a life no longer worth living.
Such a pity I share some of the Tall White’s genes, but perhaps they may probe helpful yet…they will do something for humanity…I can omly hope.
reptiliandude: As God is my witness, the motto of the Consortium translates roughly into, “A life of abundance that displaces even death.”
//////
—And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.
Rev. 9:6

It wouldn’t be fair if I at least didn’t give some of you a little “head’s up.”
Not everything is as cut and dried as it seems…
Many of your ancestors put messages in bottles, and cast them into the sea of time.
You might do well to put away some of your hubris, and consider what those water damaged scribblings are saying to you.
But that choice also has its drawbacks…
In the long run, it’s all on you anyways.
Choose wisely.
ACuriousHumanBeing: Well you know what they say.
Be careful what you wish for, wishes come true…not free.
Concerning those bottles that are sprouting up all over the place. And choices that have drawbacks, and as to which chouce to make…
reptiliandude: Because when it comes to evolution… The indecisive perish.
ACuriousHumanBeing: Thank you for this wisdom. I will cherish it.
And maybe find any options not yet considered, as I understand that is a human speciality. 😉
I think I know which to choose though.
This wisdom can be used, for these people of the past worked hard, but I can sense the drawbacks of being too nuerotic on the past when one is not ready. I know not the future, but I want the best decision.
I will think on which to choose…
Again, thank you.
ACuriousHumanBeing: A while ago there was a video game known as Earth Bound 3. In the game the villian, Porky, wanted to live forever, and had a scientist construct a capsule that would keep him alive forever, would industructible, and protect him from the outside world.
It worked, the villian, Porky, went into the capsule where he would never die.
But the capsule worked perfectly.
He could never leave, and would live for eternity in the dark capsule, alone, isolated, and cut off from the world forever.
He, as wanted to, got to live forever.
And he would never, ever die,
No matter he did.
And no matter how much he wanted to.

…………..
Not even Jupiter can find a lost opprotunity..or wish for that matter.
reptiliandude: You science fiction is quite quaint. But far removed from the realities of the ‘Universe.’
ACuriousHumanBeing: Oh my goodness
How can you miss the point so much.
Of course its not reality, it’s a fantasy fiction meant create a theme about the costs of living forever and the price you horrible price you pay for making that dream a reality. It’s a giant metaphor. It’s relfecting reality in a different way, and changing how one percieves an issues.
Even the simplist stories can still be learned from.
For the fool thinks these simple lessons are just so immature and stupid. That they are beyond that, and are sophisticated beings beyond such simple things.
How arrogent, for those simple things are the back bone of complexity, and these things create complexity when weaved sp amd so and such and such.
Lessons such as the golden rule. So easily forgotten by such wise beings pf the universe.
Yes its quaint, simple, and extremely silly,
but it has more heart and wisdom than the entirety of the Consortium, and understands the value of the so called ‘simple’.
reptiliandude: I don’t take any pleasure in your science fiction. Its pabulum. Well… The Martian was alright. The book, that is. But most of your science fiction has a Pollyanna-esque view of how the social order of the universe should be that would be suicidal to any species with the fortitude to sally forth into interstellar space in the first place. Not to mention the silly and contrived plot devices and technologies which would be physically impossible even to the research and development labs of the Consortium.
ACuriousHumanBeing: Yeah. It’s an ideal of what we want usually. It gives us something to strive for. Living on this world make you hope for a better future.
Know that.
As much as you hate it, Sci Fy is inspiring to us, and actually makes people care about science and its potential. It makes people consider the possibilities, and gives them bew goals and aspirations. Do they reach them, not always, but in thier quests they some awesome and cool things, and inspire others to look into science and learn more.
And of course they’re silly. Some of them on purpose. What of mech series as Gundam, or Gurren Laghann? Of Science Fantasy as Star Wars and Dragon Ball Z. They are expressions of hopes and dreams, excitement for the future, and are excellent for examining the human condition or even providing news ways of looking at society and social structure.
I really hope your people have stories like these, else I fear they won’t be popular amonst my kin. We like the silly and stupid, cause sometimes the best lessons are in you’ve stories you’ve so easily trashed and thrown away. Or its just entertaining and fun.
Have a little imagination dude. You’re being a bit grump. We’ll need some imagination and hope if we ever hope to answer this beacon. Else no one will care, cause whose gonna fight for a shitty future. Ya need hope, and stories are the vehicle for that, and so much more.
Question: I agree about sci-fi being inspiring to us. I mean, have you checked out Rick and Morty… Shiieet, now that’s what I’m taking bout lol.
DankNethers: Science Fiction / Fantasy provides people a glimpse, albeit inaccurate, into a world they cannot possibly comprehend
Interesting though that the depth of the inaccuracy is a lack of imagination
Besides, Sci-Fi gives people the confidence that, regardless of the overwhelming complexity of of a vast universe, the everyday Joe can still shuffle forth into this universe and prove himself relevant
I see it as a way to train minds for the next evolutionary hurdle before us
It’s also good clean fun
