garbotalk: Certainly. Immunities cannot flower under lab conditions. They require hosts and time in order to develop within the human hosts gradually, if at all. We have been infected with diseases for the past 200,000 years, one after another, intentionally given to us via a variety of methods. AIDS is a more recent contagion dumped on us.
Sometimes plagues would nearly wipe us out, like the black plague. Others, we would overcome and develop natural immunities for which are then harvested and used to make vaccines both by us, and by them.
Imagine a system whereby the infected subjects develop their own cures only to have them stolen and sold around the universe to keep aliens healthy. Who is more motivated than us to find the cures? The pharmaceutical industry is heavily compromised by the Kayeen.
They keep methodical records of each of us, tracking and planting diseases and viruses aimed at specific populations. They are currently working to try to have all medical files of individuals across the world uploaded to a central database like the cloud for easier access by them. We must fight this invasion of our privacy.
Other advanced primate worlds might develop one or two diseases, jumping from another species for example. They have less developed immune systems because they live in pristine conditions, not the sewer of disease that is our planet.
We were given overclocked immune systems intentionally by these Kayeen, specifically for this application. Our immunity response swarms every invasion, sometimes causing our deaths, rather than dying from the infections themselves. Asthma and allergies come to mind.
We are disease carriers like typhoid Mary, who infected others without succumbing to the disease herself. This is why we are quarantined.

I just read this and realized that you probably need another hint for the last paragraphs to make sense.
Those who are smashing atoms apart to study what they’re made of need to get together and talk to those who are smooshing them together to try and make sustainable power.
They need to get together, knock back a few pints and talk about the ‘spooky’ things and the ‘weird’ things that they’ve seen in the process of their labors and during the development of the tech.
That way at least one of them can metaphorically run through the streets of Athens butt nekkid and shouting!

I felt bad for you when you tried to address the HIV virus via CRISPR-Cas9.
You’ve got quite a ways to go with that.
Part of the problem is you can’t use the CRISPR-Cas9 technique with the cells still in residence within the body and you can only utilize it when the cells are dividing.
That makes it kind of tough for it to be a viable way to edit the genes of people with cystic fibrosis and such…
Also there’s that whole vector virus delivery system…
It’s like turning lose a lawnmower that never stops cutting grass and replacing a new strain of grass behind it.
Eventually, it could push the House out of the way to make room for more ‘lawn’ creating a type of cancer that little of your research in the p53 protein could help you with.
