THE BEACON
Opinion, Flux, and Tea
RD argues that many “facts” are actually shaped by opinion and variables in flux, suggesting that progress requires the unconventional insights of non-specialists to navigate complex mysteries. He leaves encrypted Morse code messages and specific “dropped” clues intended for a future female collaborator, warning that researchers must decentralize their work to prevent military interests from suppressing long-range communication technology in favor of weapons systems.

Reptiliandude: The reason that I posted this was to demonstrate how opinion shapes ‘facts.’
Some ‘facts’ will never truly be resolved by consensus because there are too many variables.
For someone to pick an argument over, say… “How many continents are there?” Is demonstrative of someone who lacks the ability to distinguish between things that cannot be pigeon-holed, or precisely classified from things which cannot be known. “Continent” is a variable which has its basis partly in opinion. What determines what a ‘Continent’ is, is dependent upon variables such as, “What data are you referencing with that descriptive?”
Not everything can be known. You can try, but sometimes there are too many variables and you have to find a way to work with them the way that they are.
I like to roll dice to work out certain math problems and it drives some people I casually associate with absolutely crazy, because my results are more reliable (and accurate) than theirs. There can be many answers to the same question and all of those can be right.
One only needs to discover the right example so that unique acceptance becomes a part of one’s reality filter.
I put this continent question up here as a perfect example of that. Some things are continually in a state of flux for one reason or another and they cannot be locked down.
Those who claim that they can lock down objects in flux are tilting at windmills.
It’s much like saying that you can grasp an electron and tell me all about it at the same time that you’re handing it to me. But you can partition some variables, so that a friend can reference them back to you, even if that friend is a great distance away.
The key to solving this mystery is to incorporate into the project the ideas of people who are less “specialized.’ The same way Dr. Jenner incorporated an overheard conversation by two milk maids. But then theoreticians and engineers sometimes just don’t get along till a musician or a mechanic joins them and orders a couple of pints.
Dah-dah-dit dit dah, di-dit dah di-di-dah-dah-di-dit.

Garbotalk: Beacon clues come in all forms!
reptiliandude : Just trying to put down a little encouragement for the gal who will be reading this thread a few years from now. She looks a bit frustrated because she’s being overlooked by her peers.

Please don’t say this out loud, Garbotalk.
I want to surprise her.
Sometimes I meet people after the fact.
And drop things…
Mercy me, it appears I’ve lost a calculation somewhere… I must have dropped it in the tea section…

Check the date of this post, Hon.
It was long before we actually spoke.
Translate the Morse code above it, if you don’t believe me. You’ll know who said it to you.
It can be done.
Reptiliandude: Don’t scare her.
And it’s probably best that you two don’t associate much.
You are already well known.
But this place will promote alliances.
There will be several people working on this and they need to split up.
There will be dangers involved through some shady government officials who will try and divert this tech into high speed military applications rather than to allow it to flower into a form of long range communication.
They will steal and suppress all the work into these endeavors in the name of national security save for that which makes weapons systems faster.
So it’s better to not leave all the research in one place. On a side note…
“The universe is really quite a noisy place.”
“Once you get the ‘wax’ out of your ears, that is.”
