Extreme Extremophiles: Public Relations, Mars Missions, and the Survival of Landlubber Bacteria

Reptiliandude addresses speculation regarding bacteria sent into the upper atmosphere , dismissing claims of hostile “Siriv activity” meant to ward off alien visitors. Instead, he explains that researchers are testing the extreme resilience of terrestrial bacteria (“landlubbers”) to simulate the planetary protection measures needed for future Mars missions. He points out that this effort is already far too late, citing historical precedents where Earth bacteria successfully survived the harsh thermal extremes of the lunar surface inside an Apollo Hasselblad camera. Striking a characteristic, humorous pop-culture pivot, he compares their robust survival to the resilience of David Hasselhoff in the “Zombies in Spaceland” video game mode, offering to share the precise codes required to unlock and play as the celebrity DJ.

krisptreats:

bacteria shot up in space during eclipse

does somebody not want aliens around during the event? some siriv activity going on?

reptiliandude:

They’re just testing the effects of space on the bacteria that are ‘landlubbers.’

They’re trying to demonstrate to the general public the care they’re taking so that when they go to Mars it won’t be said that they brought any bacteria with them, but they’re to late.

Even on the moon with all that heat, the bacteria survived within the Hasselblad camera nearly as well as Hasselhoff in the DJ booth did in Zombies in Spaceland.

reptiliandude:

I should also point out here the ways and means with which to actually play as the mighty Hasselhoff.
