THE BA 'ALAKET
1 1 2 3 5 8 13 21 34 (Part 3/114)
In this forum excerpt, the conversation shifts to a humorous, dispute regarding language acquisition and keyboard layouts. User “reptiliandude” (RD) explains that the alien user “shyeejanut” operates in a logographic language similar to Chinese and struggled adapting to English typing. He highlights her immense fury upon discovering that most humans use the inefficient QWERTY layout—originally designed to slow down mechanical typewriters—instead of the superior Dvorak keyboard she had mastered, resulting in a legendary, destructive tantrum. While other users find the image of an alien breaking things over keyboard layouts highly relatable and endearing, shyeejanut reprimands RD for publicly airing her private indiscretions, prompting RD to jokingly commend another user for calling the embarrassing incident a “fable” to help soothe her pride.

In this forum excerpt, the conversation shifts to a humorous, sci-fi-infused dispute regarding language acquisition and keyboard layouts. User “reptiliandude” (RD) explains that the alien user “shyeejanut” operates in a logographic language similar to Chinese and struggled adapting to English typing. Branch 3: The Cosmic Workspace and the Dvorak Keyboard Fury
shyeejanut: “That’s why I’m here. Probably saved at least a thousand years of stumbling for my kind just learning your lingo.”
bruceisagoodboy: Lol. Is a sense of humor universal?
reptiliandude: As is the lack of it among most females of various species.
Rufustar: How is that? It takes us few decades…
shyeejanut: Fortunately, our species has an easier time than RD’s. Hence, the quote to remind him that such learning may not always be as accessible.
garbotalk: When you put quotations around someone else’s comment, you need to tell us who you are quoting. You can edit your comment to say RD said. .
reptiliandude: She’s relatively new to writing\typing the language.
She was so proud of her prowess in learning to type–on a DVORAK keyboard.
Her paroxysms of anger upon discovering that most English-speaking humans were using the counter-productive keyboards that mimicked the ones designed to slow old mechanical typewriters down so that the type bars wouldn’t clump together and stick was legendary.
She actually broke things.
It was quite refreshing to see.
As for language, hers is much like mine in that it is logographic, like Chinese.
So expect some issues in both punctuation and grammatical usage.
I have encouraged her to use the edit function.
lelekfalo: Did you at least explain to her how wicked awesome it is to be able to type on a Dvorak?!
reptiliandude: She was too busy breaking things at the time.
lelekfalo: She was breaking things because YOU dissed her Dvorak skills! You’re an instigator!
ACuriousHumanBeing: I take it your species inspired Chinese in the first place?
Lunar_Lander1: What better than a dvorak keyboard to type a symphony (n°9) to a new world…
shyeejanut: For the record, I do not need my actions defended.
Nor, do I appreciate your indiscretion in revealing chapters of any associations we may have shared.
ACuriousHumanBeing: This chapter of association endears you to us.
I know it may be personal, but know knowing this event feels refreshing.
Too often we speak about the power imbalance, but this, there is none of that in this. Its universal in its relatedness.
Let the record know that, I found this fable of yours enjoyable.
reptiliandude: I’m really glad you called it a ‘fable.’ She’ll deny the extent to which her vicious temper grabbed a hold of her to her dying day if asked directly, so you probably just scored some major points there. Well done, young Padawan.
[Deleted User]: Is he actually allowed to do that? This whole enterprise seems a bit informal. I have a question. Were your species ever involved in China? It is said that the one we call Confucius was born from a dragon. Moreover, your language adopts a similar style, according to ReptilianDude.
Confucius-Bot: Confucius say, man who fart in church, sit in own pew. “Just a bot trying to brighten up someone’s day with a laugh. | Message me if you have one you want to add.”
reptiliandude: As you can plainly see, a certain amount of informality is built right into Reddit. She is currently dealing with a host of issues, so I will answer your question in the affirmative. The Sino people have always shown deference and respect to the dragons who walk among them.
[Deleted User]: Absolutely; I just noticed that everyone is talking overly formally and assumed that was the expected mode of discourse. Thanks for the confirmation btw.
reptiliandude: We are essentially in the ‘green room’ now, talking among ourselves. There are moments when we need to be more solemn, but this is not one of them. Bear in mind that while all conversations here are archived, only formal conversations are destined to submitted into the legal record.
[Deleted User]: I see. There is a lot of interesting information here. Not as many people posting as the number of posters or subscribers would suggest, however. Quite suspicious.
Lunar_Lander1: Yes I though about it to. I’m new to Reddit but I was always under the impresion there are much more posters than intesrested usualy… ^^ Like you said it’s quite suspicious, who know what await us in the dark… I prefer to think about some good maybe, whatever the form.
